Ubuntu UnityStarting in Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu has changed the interface to use Unity by default. Within Unity, the system tray has been restricted such that applications must be whitelisted for their icons to show up in it. This was meant to keep the tray from becoming cluttered, but results in certain programs's trays from becoming non functional. For XChat, that means that tray alerts and balloons will not show up until XChat is whitelisted. This also means that if you minimize XChat to the tray, and don't have XChat whitelisted, XChat becomes inaccessible. Provided is a Perl script to whitelist XChat's tray icon. After running it, you must log out of your Ubuntu account, and then back in. After doing so, the tray icon should show up. |
